Canadiens interested in Smyth

The Montreal Canadiens are looking to strengthen their position in the standings and appear to be in the market for a gritty top-six forward.
As TFP reported this past week, the Habs are shown an interest in Colorado Avalanche left wing Ryan Smyth, who has a no-trade clause.
According to the Ottawa Sun, the Avalanche wants to shed salary and is shopping Smyth.
The Sun claims Canadiens GM Bob Gainey and his staff are "studying" Smyth, who is making an average of $6.25 million per season.
Colorado's goaltending has been in question all season and various reports suggest the Avs are interested in Canadiens goalie Jaroslav Halak.
Smyth, 32, recently told the Denver Post he'd prefer to stay with the Avalanche and will ultimately have the final say as to whether or not he's dealt.
The Habs tried to sign Smyth two-summers ago when he was an unrestricted free agent.
