Game 1 to Westport

February 20th, 2009

The Brockville Tikis did not play their best game to open the playoffs, but still came close to pulling out a victory. Westport came out physical and had the Tikis pressed in their own end in the 1st period but were unable to score.

After a scoreless 1st period, the Rideaus opened up a 2-0 lead on 2 goals by Brett Perkins. Dan Weir (Vergette) got the Tikis on the scoreboard at the 15:47 mark and this was quickly followed up with a goal by Jordan Moran( Bissonnette, Chapman) 20 seconds later. After the 2nd period,Westport had outshot the Tikis 21-17.

In the 3rd period, Westport scored a quick goal at the 1:20 mark by Tom Franzon to take a 3-2 lead. Not a team too quit, Tikis Jordan Moran (Whiteford, Walsh) tied the game back up just 2 minutes later. Westport then scored 2 goals in a span of 1 minute to take a 5-3 lead. Brockville mounted an attack and Westport ended up taking a penalty with just under 2 minutes left in the game and with the faceoff in the Rideaus end, the Tikis called a time out and pulled goalie Ryan Bishop. The Tikis were rewarded with a powerplay goal when Jordan Moran (Melcher, Whiteford) with his 3rd goal of the game brought the Tikis to within 1 goal. The Tikis were unable to get the equalizer in the last 50 seconds of the game.

Westport outshot the Tikis 34-27 overall. It was a quirt night on the penalty front as Brockville took 8 minors to Westports 10.

Game 2 of the best of 7 series goes on Sunday night in Brockville at 7:30
