Bruins make monster offer for Kaberle

http://community.nesn.com/blogs/nhl_lowdown/archive/2009/03/01/3711275.aspx

The B's stifled rumors of Chris Pronger joining the Black and Gold by Wednesday, but that hasn't stopped Peter Chiarelli and Co. from pursuing other defensemen.

According to the Boston Herald, the Bruins have offered their 2008 first-round pick, forward Joe Colborne of Denver University, their 2009 No. 1 pick, and a third-round pick to the Toronto Maple Leafs for defenseman Tomas Kaberle.

Kaberle, 30, first showed signs of wanting to play in Boston after submitting a list of 10 teams to the Toronto front office with the Bruins listed in that group. Reports indicate that the 10 teams listed are the 10 teams ahead of the Maple Leafs in the Eastern Conference.

Toronto general manager Brian Burke initally had plans to keep Kaberle, saying it would take a deal which would "blow him away" to let Kaberle leave the Leafs.

"I like this guy," said Burke. "Bet on him staying."

Well this deal should blow him away and it seems unlikely any team would put this much on the table for one player in return. The Bruins do appear to be going a little over the top in this deal to bring Kaberle to Boston as anything short of bringing home the Cup will be unacceptable if the B's are to lose three draft picks and Colborne in the process.

Kaberle will average $4.25M per season on the two years left on his contract.

tsn reports that burke and the bruins haven't talked about a huge deal at all, so nesn is full of it like normal.

Something is going on maybe no offer but Bruins are interested in Kaberle.... Also adding some fuel to the fire was Burke being at the Bruins game on Saturday
