After another loss last night, the Canadiens have slipped into sixth spot in the East and many are starting to be concerned over their poor play of late.

Scoring winger Alex Tanguay will be returning from injury next week, but the Habs have a hole up the middle with Robert Lang out for the season.

Canadiens GM Bob Gainey's top priority has been upgrading his blueline, with the intention of acquiring a quarterback for the powerplay.

The Canadiens have reportedly shown an interest in Anaheim's Chris Pronger, Phoenix's Derek Morris, Toronto's Tomas Kaberle and Florida's Jay Bouwmeester.

Citing a source, Montreal's La Presse claims the Canadiens have the right assets to trade in order to obtain a high-end player.

"Their trump card is evidently their young players," the unnamed source told the paper. "They are very talented and aren't expensive. I'm speaking about Max Pacioretty, Sergei Kostitsyn, Yannick Weber and Matt D'Agostini. I'm not saying they're being shopped, far from it, but they are [Montreal's] trump cards."

La Presse, which points to Bouwmeester and Pronger are possible options, also lists defenseman Ryan O'Byrne, Ryan McDonagh and P.K. Subban are tradable options.

Another defenseman believed to be available is John-Michael Liles of the Colorado Avalanche.

Liles has a no-trade clause, but it's been reported that he'd waive it and go to a playoff contender.

You have as much chance of getting him as the Leafs do winning the Draft Lottery and getting Johnny T!!! Slim to none buddy haha

I can see the habs getting him in the offseason. Tampa Bay is not his home, montreal is haha.

Well if they are going to work out a deal they better do it before the draft and his NTC kicks in.... Also lecavalier grew up a Nordiques fan lol.. so does he really want to be a Hab?? hahaha

but who knows man... 100th year and all... u never know.. Gainey WILL do something

I hate to think of the price of Lecavalier...especially when the Habs so obviously need a player like him.

Jay Boumester could be a good options as well. I wonder how expensive Olli Jokinen and or Ed Jovonovski be to get out of the desert....Phoenix is broke and needs to shed salary. Montreal has picks and prospects and needs to get a PP point man and a big centre...
