Maple Leafs ready to sell
TheFourthPeriod.com

The Maple Leafs have established the price tags for its available players and are waiting for someone to pay up, the Toronto Sun reports.

"We've set the prices internally," Burke told the paper. "If someone is willing to pay the asking price, there is no reason to wait."

While Burke added that he's not yet receiving anything "intriguing," sources tell TFP he and his staff have seriously considered at least one offer to date.

"Things are heating up," Burke said. "There has been a noticeable increase in calls."

Burke has acknowledged that it would take a significant offer for him to part with either Tomas Kaberle or Pavel Kubina, while it's more likely to see such players as Nik Antropov and Alexei Ponikarovsky change uniforms in the next 10 days.

Leafs to be one the busiest teams at deadline

http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=268366&lid=sublink03&lpos=headlines_main

They are nine million dollars under the salary cap, however the Toronto Maple Leafs will not be a buyer at the NHL's March 4th trade deadline. In fact they could be one of the biggest sellers with perhaps only defenceman Luke Schenn not in play.

The rookie blueliner is virtually untouchable given Brian Burke's recent comments that a lottery pick was offered up in what turned out to be a very short discussion according to the general manager .

In the meantime the Leafs need a lot.

From goaltending to scoring, virtually every position needs an upgrade as Toronto will be looking to stockpile draft picks and prospects.

One player that could bring about a good return is veteran defenceman Tomas Kaberle.

Kaberle, who has a "no trade" clause in his contract, has provided a list of ten teams to which he would accept a trade. Reportedly, all were in the eastern conference.
With a reasonable salary at $4.25 million over the next two years and a value to the Maple Leafs, Burke will be looking for a lot in return.

Forward Nik Antropov is another player who could be on the move with the reported asking price a first round draft pick for a player who becomes a free agent in the summer.

Pavel Kubina also has a "no trade" clause, although he says that he has not been asked to provide a list of teams that he would be willing to accept a trade to. If the Leafs miss the playoffs again this season, he could be moved this summer.

Perhaps the bigger question to ask is who stays? With so many moving parts and a major rebuilding job to do, Brian Burke will certainly be one of the busiest general managers in the league in the coming days.

I'd like to see the Leafs make some changes to improve the team by starting the rebuild. I don't think that Burke will make any trades unless he gets what he wants in return. As the trade deadline gets closer though I think there will be an increase in calls and also an increase in what teams are willing to pay in return. And as other players from other teams are moved I think that you will see more need for some of the Leafs players. It'd be nice to get a few prospects and picks for the upcoming draft!!!!!!!!

By the time trade deadline day passes, toronto will be lucky to have the zamboni driver left. Brian burke is doing what the senators should be doing and start to clean house and rebuild. I give the leafs 2 years and they will be playoff contenders again if burke does what he wants to do. I believe he is gonna bring a western conference style team into the east, and sorry to tell everybody but the west is definitely better then the east.
