Tikis Down 2 In The Series
February 22nd, 2009

The Tikis will need to find a way to play 5 on 5.

Westport utilized their powerplay on Sunday night in game 2 of the 7 game series to defeat the Brockville Tikis 7-4. The Rideaus scored 5 powerplay goals.

Westport scored the 1st goal of the game on the powerplay just 4 minutes in when Dustin Sinclair was left unattended at the side of the net. Brockville came back with an even strength goal by Colin Roberts (Melcher, Thomson). Kyle Whiteford gave the Tikis the only lead they have held in the series when he scored a shorthanded goal on a solo effort. With just a couple minutes left in the 1st period, Nick Held tied the game up for Westport on the powerplay.

The second period saw a steady stream of Tikis to the penalty box and it proved costly as Westports veterans potted 4 goals, with 3 of the goals powerplay markers. In the 1st minute of the period Dan Mandel gave the Rideaus a 3-2 lead. The Tikis Jordan Vergette (Keane, Bissonnette) tied the game up on some hard work around the Westport goal. Then Westports powerplay took over when Andrew Thorne, Kurt Thompson and Tom Franzone all converted to send the Rideaus into a 6-3 lead.

Teams traded goals in the 3rd period. Tikis got back within stricking distance when Ethan Thompson (Rice, Walsh) blasted a shot from the point that Rideaus goalie Tyler Kenney did not even see.

Westports Franzone added an empty net goal in the final minute.

Westport outshot the Tikis 32 - 22. The Tikis were penalized a total of 42 minutes (16 minors, 1 Misc) to Westports 22 minutes (11 minors)

Game 3 goes tomorrow night in Westport... Not looking good for the Tikis... going to be tough to win in Westport and going down 3-0 may put this series out of reach
