Unhappy Laraque expects trade

George Laraque said if the Canadiens don't want to use his unique skills, they should trade him to another team.

The NHL's heavyweight champion has been a healthy scratch and he vented his frustration following a light, semi-optional workout in Brossard yesterday. Laraque, who is with his fourth team in four seasons, said he wouldn't have signed with the Canadiens as a free agent last summer if he knew he was going to have a limited role with the team. Laraque has two years remaining on a contract that pays him $1.5 million (U.S.) a season.

About 15 players took to the ice for 45 minutes yesterday while others worked out in the gym or kicked a soccer ball around. The players returned to the ice later in the afternoon to entertain a group of youngsters from the Club des petits déjeuners du Québec.

The Canadiens' next game is Friday night in Philadelphia.

Well I think laraque has to realize that montreal is trying to get their feet back on the ground and get some wins to solidify a playoff spot. Yes he can fight, but this year what has he really done besides that? He is an expense bodyguard for the Canadiens and not much more than that. If he really wants to be traded then so be it. Fighting is apart of the game, but you know what? Playing hockey is apart of the game as well!!
