Flyers Top Kings 2-0

Marty Biron made 34 saves for his second shutout of the season while Jeff Carter (36) and Simon Gagne (23) scored for the Flyers in a 2-0 win against the Kings. Biron, while inconsistent at times was definitely the star of the game this time around as the Kings had several opportunities to score but couldn't put the puck past him.

From the Philadelphia Flyers website:" It gave him the edge in the Philadelphia Flyers' competition for the No. 1 goalie - for a game, at least." Do I smell a goalie controversy or is this a possible change of personnel in the Flyers squad before the trade deadline? Personally, I think it's the latter of the two. The Flyers have plenty of depth up front and their defense has improved after the loss of Derian Hatcher and Jason Smith in the offseason and the return from injuries of both Randy Jones and Ryan Parent.

The one place where the Flyers have had their difficulties has been in the goaltending position. While good goalies are hard to find these days, I feel that the key to the Flyers going deep into the playoffs and possibly a run at the Stanley Cup will be finding a top notch goaltender. If no trade is made before the deadline, both Antero Nittymaki's and Marty Biron's contracts are up at the end of this season. More money will also be available with Derian Hatcher and Mike Rathje finally being removed from the teams long term injured reserve list. Will the Flyers elect to keep one and shop around for a number one goaltender or will they let both of them go and bring up someone from the minors? Only time will tell....
