Lightning, Penguins discussing trade
TheFourthPeriod.com

With the playoff all but out of reach for the Tampa Bay Lightning this season, management has put its focus on the upcoming trade deadline.

Outside of their top line, the Bolts have a number of tradable assets, including Mark Recchi, Marek Malik, Lukas Krajicek and Jeff Halpern.

Speculation has finally died down surrounding a possible trade involving Lightning superstar Vincent Lecavalier, but his linemate is starting to attract plenty of interest.

The Pittsburgh Penguins are actively trying to acquire a top-line sniper and are believed to be interested in Lightning forward Martin St. Louis.

St. Louis, who has 19 goals and 50 points so far this season, has a no-trade clause and would have to approve any deal the Bolts agree to.

Tampa would like to get its hands on a No.1 or No.2 defenseman, and the Penguins are reportedly willing to move blueliner Ryan Whitney for a top offensive threat.

The Lightning has been scouting a number of Penguins games lately, with one scout in attendance for last night's win over the San Jose Sharks.
