Leafs to pursue Sedin twins in summer?

If Daniel and Henrik Sedin hit the open market as unrestricted free agents July 1, the Toronto Maple Leafs are expected to try and sign them, reports CBC.

During last night's Hotstove segment of CBC's Hockey Night in Canada with Ron MacLean, Al Strachan, Mike Milbury and Pierre Lebrun, Strachan indicated that Leafs GM Brian Burke is "likely, or possible, gonna get the Sedin twins in the summer."

The Sedins are in need of a new contract or the Vancouver Canucks risk losing them via free agency this coming July.

The Leafs are expected to pursue a top center in the summer, with Henrik Sedin thought to be a likely target. As Strachan indicated, in order to sign one twin, a team will need to sign the other.

According to Lebrun, the Canucks are not close to getting the Sedin twins signed to extensions.

The Leafs, meanwhile, are actively discussing trades with a number of clubs. Some of the players reportedly available include Tomas Kaberle, Nik Antropov, Jason Blake, Dominic Moore, Pavel Kubina, Vesa Toskala, Alexei Ponikarovsky and Matt Stajan.
