The Bruins are looking to bolster their lineup to better their chances heading into post-season action, reports the Boston Globe.

With Marco Sturm out for the season with an injury, and Michael Ryder gone an extended period of time, the Bruins have enough money under the salary cap to acquire a high-priced player.

According to the Globe, the NHL and the Players' Association are in talks about relaxing some of the cap restrictions as it relates to player bonuses.

If the two parties agree, teams could save money against the cap in terms of bonuses and could use that money to help acquire player at the trade deadline. In Boston's case, that amounts to an extra $2 million or more.

The paper continues to report the Bruins are interested in Edmonton Oilers forward Erik Cole.

The Oilers have been scouting the Bruins and a deal could be worked out in the coming weeks.

Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli is also looking for a top-four defenseman. The Globe suggests the Bruins could be interested in Anaheim's Chris Pronger, and could fit his salary under the cap if the league relaxes on player bonuses.
